BCNET delivers value for organizations that require high-performance networking services, redundant solutions and the added benefits of free peering. BCNET agrregates these services at its community based BCNET Transit Exchange.
Cost Effective Community Peering
Our unique Transit Exchange is an optimal “peering” model where you can interconnect at our central data hub and exchange zero-cost data traffic. Essentially, this means that all data traveling between you and other Vancouver Exchange customers is free — eliminating often costly transit fees through a commercial network provider.
Redundant Solutions
Obtain Internet service from a number of commercial carriers. With multiple commercial ISPs located at the Exchange, you can virtually connect at a fraction of the price of bringing separate circuits to your site.
Super High-Speed Connections
Mega high-speed connections are capable of processing one- gigabit per second — 1,000 times the amount of an average home hookup.
Access Researchers Around the World
For organizations that have research as their mandate, you may be eligible to connect to the BCNET Optical Regional Advanced Research Network (ORAN) and gain access to researchers, institutes and universities throughout the province, across the country and around the world.
The BCNET Transit Exchange
Pioneered by BCNET, the Transit Exchange is a centrally located physical infrastructure, or neutral “meet-me” place, where organizations can interconnect directly with the Exchange and each other to share data traffic and access various commercial Internet Service Providers (ISPs). BCNET currently has five Transit Exchanges:
Vancouver
Victoria
Prince George
Kelowna
Kamloops

Eligibility
All organizations are eligible for basic connection services to the BCNET Transit Exchange.
Note: Organizations with a research mandate may be eligible to connect to BCNET's regional advanced research network as well as the national CANARIE network, CA*net 4.
