RESEARCHERS CONVERGE AT UNIVERSITY OF VICTORIA'S ADVANCED RESEARCH NETWORKS DAYS

On November 28, 2005 over 80 researchers came togethers at the University of Victoria to take part in The Advanced Research Networks Days event. Together, BCNET, CANARIE and UVic's Office of Research Services developed the one day event to provide the community with an exploration of how advanced networks are enabling innovation in research.

"The Advanced Research Network Day demonstrated the extraordinary importance of BCNET and CANARIE in providing a technology that has enabled faculty members at the University of Victoria to do internationally recognized research in Science, Humanities, Social Science, Fine Arts and Engineering," says Dr. Richard Keeler, Associate Vice President of Research at UVic.

Hosted by Dr. Richard Keeler, the event brought together over 80 attendees. An amazing line-up of speakers, from the arts, humanities, physics, astronomy, medicine and oceanography came to share information about their unique research projects and how they are leveraging the high performance provincial and national infrastructure. Andrew Bjerring, President and CEO, CANARIE also gave an interesting presentation on Intelligent Infrastructure and eScience. The event offered plenty of networking opportunities to meet and share ideas with local researchers.

The first in a series of Advanced Research Networks Days events, BCNET is targeting one event on every university campus in BC.
