BCNET Recognizes Community Members for their Outstanding Contributions in the Development of British Columbia’s Advanced Research Networks

Every year BCNET awards community members for their commitment and outstanding contributions in the advancement of BC’s super broadband research networks. The winners of the 2006 awards were announced at the BCNET Annual General Meeting reception held in Vancouver, BC on September 21, 2006.

Michael Hrybyk, President and CEO, BCNET, explains BCNET’s appreciation for its members. “Innovation and growth at BCNET would not be possible without our community members. We reserve this time to thank important contributors whose support and dedication has helped pave the road for the growth and development of high-performance research networks in BC.”

Winners of the BCNET Network Builder Award

Charles Jago, the former President of UNBC and a member of BCNET since 2005, was awarded the Network Builder Award for his commitment to network expansion in Prince George.

Theresa Carbonneau, the CEO of Syntagma Network Services and a long time supporter of high-performance networks, was also awarded for her role in facilitating the connection of The University President’s Council of British Columbia (TUPC) to BCNET. Carbonneau has been a BCNET member since 2001.

Jack Falk, BCNET’s Treasurer since 2001 and recent retiree as Vice President of Finance and Operations at UVic, was recognized for making advanced network expansion achievable in BC through his strategic financial planning.

Alan Wagner, Associate Professor, UBC, receives the BCNET Faculty Recognition Award

Alan Wagner, an associate professor at UBC's Computer Science department and chair of the BCNET Network Research Advisory Committee, received the award for his contributions to the BCNET 6th Annual Advanced Networks Conference.

David Stillwell, Network Support Analyst, is Granted the BCNET Staff Recognition Award

The BCNET Staff Recognition award was presented to David Stillwell, Network Support Analyst, for his commitment in designing and setting facility standards for the BCNET Transit Exchanges.
