BCNET Recognizes Community Members for their Outstanding Contributions in the Development of British Columbia’s Advanced Research Networks

Congratulations to this year's BCNET Award recipients. This year's BCNET recognized four outstanding individuals who have demonstrated excellence in their efforts to promote the goals, vision and projects of BCNET over the past year.

Every year BCNET awards community members for their commitment and outstanding contributions in the advancement of BC’s advanced research networks. The winners of the 2007 awards were announced at the BCNET Annual General Meeting reception held in Vancouver, BC on September 20, 2007.

Michael Hrybyk, President and CEO, BCNET, explains BCNET’s appreciation for its members. “The recipients of these awards are recognized for their outstanding commitment to the advancement of advanced networks in BC. With their support BCNET is able to provide a first class network to BC's research and education community."

Winners of the BCNET Network Builder Award

Jim Reichert , the VP of Research and International at BCIT and a Board member of BCNET since 2001, was awarded the Network Builder Award for his commitment to BCNET and excellent leadership.

Patrick Mann, the CTO of Cybera (formerly Netera Alliance) and Board member of BCNET since 2001 was recognized for his dedication and commitment to the vision of BCNET over the years.

Winners of the BCNET Faculty Recognition Award

The BCNET Faculty Recognition Award went to Dr. Michelle Lamberson, Director of Learning Technology at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Dr. Lamberson is recognized for her outstanding work in the use information technology to enhance the academic experience for students, staff, and faculty of UBC with programs like wikis, weblogs, and web-enablement for scientific instrumentation.

Winner of the BCNET Staff Recognition Award

Doug Wade, Network Operations Analyst was awarded the BCNET Staff Recognition Award. Douglas Wade – also Network Operations Analyst at UBC. Mr. Wade has been an employee of UBC since 1981 and witnessed the very birth of the Internet with paper tape, punch cards, and 8-inch floppy disks. Most of his work for BCNET involves 24x7 1st level technical support via e-mail or phone trouble calls along with network monitoring. He is recognized for his outstanding dedicationa and support.
