BCNET Recognizes Community Members for their Outstanding Contributions to the Development of Advanced Research Networks

Once again, BCNET announced its annual “network awards” winners at the 2005 Annual General Meeting held on September 21, 2005 at SFU Harbor Center. Michael Hrybyk, President and CEO, BCNET presented this year’s awards." I am honored to present The Network Builder Awards to community members and staff who have displayed an outstanding commitment to BCNET and have provided unprecedented leadership in the development of advanced research networks,” said Hrybyk.

BCNET and its committee members awarded the following community members with the 2005 Network Builder Awards. BCNET would like to thank these individuals for their time, commitment and dedication in supporting, building and enhancing advanced research networks.

Dave Nikolejsin, CIO, Province of BC, was voted as recipient of the 2005 Network Builders Award for his incredible support for BCNET, and for his vision and commitment to Network BC and SPAN BC.

Thorne Won, Special Advisor, Ministry of Advanced Education, was voted as recipient of the 2005 Network Builders Award for championing the BCNET 2010 Project--the expansion of BCNET advanced networks-- to the Ministry of Advanced Education.

Don McWilliam, Network Engineer, BCNET, was voted as recipient of the 2005 Network Builders Award for his tireless efforts, long hours and dedication to building the network infrastructure.Thanks Don!! BCNET appreciates you!

For the first time, BCNET also presented a Faculty Recognition Award, an award given to a faculty member from a BCNET member institution that uses and promotes advanced networks in innovative and creative ways. This year the award was presented to Richard Smith, Associate Professor, SFU for his incredible energy and support on a number of BCNET initiatives as well as his creative use and promotion of advanced networks.

A special and honourable recognition was given to Ted Dodds, former Chair of the BCNET Board, Associate Vice President, Information Technology & CIO, UBC. BCNET, again, would like to thank Ted for his dedication to BCNET over the years and all his hard work as Chair of the BCNET Board. Ted’s strategic vision and support for BCNET has been instrumental in driving the development of BC’s advanced networks.
