BCNET Announces New Board Members
James Cranston, CIO, SFU becomes New Chair of the BCNET Board of Directors
After four years of dedication and support for BCNET at the helm of the BCNET Board of Directors, Ted Dodds, Associate Vice President, Information Technology and CIO, UBC, is passing the torch to James Cranston, CIO, SFU, who will assume Dodds’ responsibilities as Chair of the BCNET Board. "As the new Chair of the BCNET Board, I view the future as one of excitement with the implementation of our 2010 initiatiative, which will connect UBC Okanagan, Thompson Rivers University and SFU Surrey to the ORAN", said Cranston.
BCNET’s Board of Directors serves to align BCNET’s objectives with the needs of its member institutions, as well as providing effective management in support of BCNET staff. BCNET is governed by a consortium of its members as well as industry and government representatives. Each member appoints a representative to the Board of Directors.
“ As
Chair of BCNET,” Dodds recounts, “I have
been most fortunate to work with a wonderful group of
fellow Board members from the post-secondary community,
private sector and government. I would like to thank
each of them for the generous gift of their precious
time as well as their commitment and support of BCNET.
Special thanks to Mike Hrybyk, President and CEO, for
his leadership, and the entire complement of staff and
volunteers who work so hard to make the organization
a success.” Although rescinding certain responsibilities
on the BCNET Board to focus on other commitments, such
as his role as Past-Chair of the Board for CANARIE,
Dodds will continue to actively contribute to BCNET
as a member of the Board. Dodds is widely respected
for his enthusiasm for BCNET initiatives and his conscientious
leadership.
Currently responsible for the management and development of information technology support in operational and technical services, academic computing services and student services systems groups as CIO at Simon Fraser University, new BCNET Chair of the Board, James Cranston will bring years of experience as a manager of information technology in the academic, government and corporate sector to the position.
Cliff Neufeld, VP Administration and Finance, TRU, Joins BCNET Board of Directors
Additionally, Cliff Neufeld, VP Administration and Finance, TRU will be joining the BCNET Board of Directors. Neufeld has been Vice-President at TRU (UCC) since 1992, where he is responsible for the development, maintenance and integrity of TRU’s corporate, financial, budgeting, forecasting and purchasing systems.
